Head and Neck Restraint System
If they truly care about you, they’ll want to keep you safe. The number one cause of track fatalities is related to neck injuries. This is a true fact but it’s also how I’d convince someone to buy one of these for me! The HANS system is the most widely known system, but if I were in the market for a head and neck restraint system the R3 is the one I’d purchase. Give OG Racing a call at 800.934.9112 to get their
opinion and purchase an appropriate system that meets your needs. Additional information about Head and Neck Restraint systems can also be read here.
-
Safety Solutions R3 – $995
-
Defnder – $549
-
HANS – $545 – 695
Longacre Cordless Impact Gun – $217 – $246
Max torque of 300 ft-lbs, 18V battery. A great tool to have at the track especially when changing wheels on the car. Packages start at $217 (includes 1 battery) but I’d suggest getting the one that includes two batteries for $246.
Shock Doctor Power Dry Helmet Dryer – $129.99
When you get back in the car for subsequent sessions during a hot day, you’ll be happy not having to put a sweaty helmet on. Ewe!
Toe-in Plates – $57.95
I originally made my own “tow plates” but in the end broke down and purchased these tow-in plates.
Hand impact / Drive Impact – $59.95
At a race this year, I needed to borrow a hub assembly from a car that had been sitting for several years in a field. In order to remove the assembly, we needed to take the axle nut off. I attempted to use my cordless impact wrench then a wrench with a breaker bar, but it wouldn’t budge. I was introduced to a hand impact driver. A couple of hits with a hammer and the bolt was off. Next up, one of those pesky screws to hold the rotor in which I never can get out without stripping the darn thing. Tap, tap and that was off too. I was in love!
Wheel Balancer – $59.99
(An article about this balancing system will be posted soon)
Air tank – $34.99
Holds 11 gallons of air. Useful at autocross and track events.
Grassroots Motorsports Magazine Subscription – $19.95 for a year

These books are great – ‘Going Faster’ is still my bible during the season. I run autocross, but reading about the track tips and physics of why the car handles the way it does when accelerating, turning and/or braking is fascinating (and doesn’t hurt my times!).
