Dave’s Racecar for Sale

One of the Fastest ITB Race Cars in the Country for Sale!
1987 Honda Prelude Si

A fantastic opportunity for a novice starting out or a racer looking to win. It is a consistent front running race car with multiple wins and track records. In 2010, it won the North Atlantic Road Racing Championship (NARRC) Runoffs.

The car was built for SCCA’s Improved Touring B (ITB) class but is also eligible for several other classes including NASA’s Honda Challenge 5 and Performance Touring.

With owning a Honda Prelude si for the past 15 years, this package comes with a significant amount of development time. This is the second Prelude I built for ITB.

  • Engine: it is an all-out professionally built engine by Kessler Engineering in 2010. The engine has four race weekends as of August, 2011, with one being used to break the engine in. Kessler Engineering spent quite a bit of extra time researching and developing this engine as they wanted to develop a name in ITB using this car. Throughout the development, it has seen many hours on the dyno being further improved and tuned.
  • Header: Custom built and dyno tuned header by Justin Poole (well known for these and other race car headers).
  • Exhaust: Custom built by Mechanics Shop / Anthony Serra. His shop was considered to be one of the top Honda race shops and had extensive exhaust fabrication experience.
  • Custom cold air intake (legal for this car) with a Green Performance air filter
  • Fuel injectors blue printed
  • Crank scraper
  • Baffled oil pan
  • Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
  • Flywheel balanced
  • Integra final drive
  • OMP Limited Slip – clutch type
  • Suspension: Koni single adjustable. Worked directly with Koni Racing to design optimum valving set-up
  • Custom built roll cage
  • DASH2 instrumentation display included
  • AMB Transponder required for racing ($405 value) included
  • 8 Kosei K1 TS wheels (9.3 lbs each) and 4 Hoosier Dirt Stocker rain tires mounted on OEM rims
  • OEM passenger seat, useful for high performance driving events
  • Supertrap exhaust silencer – allows you to meet low sound decible limits at most tracks (meets 89 db limit at Lime Rock)
  • Optional item: RaceTechnology DL1 data acquisition system – $500. Only offered to buyer of this car.

Has up-to-date SCCA log book with new race belts; fire bottle, fuel test port. A through inspection of the car was just completed (August 2011) by Kessler Engineering with many parts replaced as preventative maintenance. Chassis has little rust (I am not aware of any). The transmission was rebuilt in Fall 2010. Various spares included such as new Carbotech brake pads, a hood, doors, and many other miscellaneous items.

Lap times:
Lime Rock Park – 1:03.452*
Watkins Glen – 2:22.838
Summit Point – 1:29.548
* The lap record is a 1:03.314 set by another car in 1996

Why selling? I have been driving the Prelude si for 15 years now and am ready for a new challenge. I have also been offered a multi-year ride in a Spec Miata, so I suppose selling the Prelude makes sense. It is honestly difficult for me to put this car up for sale.

Price:  $7,900. This represents a significant amount less than what is in the car. Trades are not being considered.

Located in CT. Not local? Various shipping options are available! I would actually like to see this car go somewhere outside of New England in case I decide to race in ITB again. It’s a super fast car that I’d hate to race against.

The Honda Prelude leading the field:

With this car, your arm might otherwise get tired from holding checkered flags during victory laps…(yes, this is just a fun joke between ITB friends)
